Build Bigger Quads At Any Age! Join us for a low volume high intensity quad workout.
Short, intense, effective…

Today I want to avoid any back/shoulder loading so the bulk of the work will be Leg Presses.

I have 2 reasons to avoid back/shoulder loading today:
1. I want to limit work on the posterior chain (lower back, glutes, hamstrings) and savethat for tomorrow’s Dead Lift workout.
2. I’m still not completely comfortable back squatting as my equilibrium issue is not100% resolved.

So, today we focus on leg presses, Bulgarian split squats (my modification) and leg extensions.

Please let us know what you think of today’s workout AND we would love to hear all about your current leg programming!

A bit faster please. I set speed at 1.5 Excellent quads, btw.

@johnsonr9 says:

If the front squats aren't working you might try some heavy goblet squats as an accessory temporarily.

@johnsonr9 says:

Solid workout. Hope the equilibrium issue continues to improve.

I sent a email Mark, as I had a question

This is good to see. Knee issues left my quads shrunken and weak. Now that the knees feel better, I have been trying to bring them up. It's working a little bit, but a workout like this could make a real difference in my quad growth. Thanks, Mark! Go get 'em!

450 and 540 pounds as warm-up sets on a leg press? At your age? You're an animal, Mark! 🐮😉 I've learned over the years that strong legs and glutes are vital to keeping us as healthy as possible as we age. I feel bad for people that have had jobs where they are on their feet most of the time, as that can impact their mobility as they get older. By the same token, people who sit for a majority of time whether it's for their jobs or not can develop 'dead ass'. As for squats, have you tried holding a pair of dumbbells at your sides and squatting that way? It's not as effective as barbell squats in terms of getting maximum results as quickly as possible, but they have worked for me. You don't have to go particularly heavy either (I use 35 or 40 pound weights for 15-20 reps per set). As a result, I think my legs and butt look as good as they ever have, so, I'm happy with the progress, even if it's more at a tortoise pace compared to that of a hare! Thrusters can be a great exercise too…dumbbells at the shoulders, do a squat, and follow it up with an overhead press when you get upright. Again, you don't need heavy weights to do this movement. I find 20 or 25 pound weights to be enough of a challenge for me on this compound lift. Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure something out that's challenging but not too taxing on your Central Nervous System. Glad you didn't get 'sanctioned' for your clandestine filming for this video too! 😉 Have a great weekend, Champ!
