Fitness Over Fifty – Documentary
I was recently featured in a short TV documentary showing how fitness is becoming a growth trend for the over fifties. In this documentary my fitness activities are shown alongside others of the well-over 50 age group, showing how the trend for fat-down and fit-up - and keeping supple and stretchy - is growing in this age group. Over 50% of UK adults are over 50, and its excellent that this group is both taking its own fitness more seriously, and being addressed by fitness suppliers with dedicated products too.
This made-for-TV documentary was filmed and broadcast earlier this year, and many thanks to director Alex Blakemore for permission to show on YouTube.

what I see is a guy lifting weights and women attending yoga classes. what I would like to see is men and women lifting weights AND attending yoga classes.
Great stuff. If you are in reasonable health the benefits of the body beautiful are plentiful. Never too late. Take it slow. Get a mix of cardio, weights and flexibility. Compete with your self at your own pace. Take pics. Brag to your friends
I got consistent at 50 podgy taxi driver ,have stuck to it hoping to run marathon under 4 hrs when 60 yrs ,but focusing on a variety of discipline s to be stronger ,good cardio ,and low impact

I am 55 calisthenics
Cheers from Baliπ΄
Im 62. I always lifted some weights mainly for sport. Was a crappy rugby player. Train in my garage. 4 times a week. 80 mins per session. Just squat, deadlift bench and accessories. Pretty simple. Train different 8 week blocks. So volume versus intensity. High rep range then next block 3 reps , 5 sets heavy weight. That works. I test maxes maybe 1 time a year
Luckily being over 50 doesn't last .
So Amazing lets go 40 – 65 year olds .
Thanks for sharing brother. Keep up the great work
I lost 55 pounds at the age of 49; it was important for me to enter my 50s carrying less weight. What no one seems to want to discuss is the loose skin/loss of elasticity which comes with a large amount of weight loss after years of being obese.
I still do 25 mile hikes and gym 4 times a week at 63. Been doing it for 35 years. Never too late to start.
54 hitting the grind daily and still in a fighting job for a 2 more years. The biggest issue I face is soreness.
Sleep man I miss real sleep. Thatβs gone away too as Iβve aged.
Iβm reusing to take any enhancement drugs.
On the tough days I still hit it and if I donβt accomplish anything more than stretches or some yoga then I at least did that to get my body going.
Of course you can do it. I'm 60 and still strength train as well as when I started at 28 years old. I started crossfit in my 50s. Never too late to start anything.
Age is just a fake number
good film but is this a BBC production ??? budget cuts to the NHS we are paying for a third of the world health care and yes i work for the NHS
I am 18 years old. Which steroid would you recommend to me?
Being born in the 60βs, and having watched a man walk on the moon in 69, our generation thought we could do anything. I like to believe the UK was spared the βRocky Syndrome β that originated here in the U:S in the 80βs where men literally destroyed and decimated their bodies in pursuit of an unrealistic and unobtainable goal of physical perfection, not realizing the impact to their body when they reached their 50βs. We are paying the price for those mistakes and just want to be healthy π€
over 50 you need hormone replacement therapy to kickstart your fitness
