YES! It is possible to build muscle after 60. That being said, you have to be more careful. As we age, we lose muscle mass every decade. We can combat this through resistance training.

If you’re over 60, you can’t train the same way you did when you were 20. Your joints have more wear and tear and your recovery ability is also reduced. If you’re not used to weight training, you may want to start with some bodyweight exercises.

I highly suggest watching my entire Fit Over 60 series to get started.

Lupe Chacon-Florez says:

I was always working out. The more challenging the more fun it was. I am now 64 but I have not worked out in about five years. I’ve lost my muscle tone. I really thank you for sharing this as I wasn’t sure if I am able to get my muscle tone back. Thank you again. Stay safe.

Wendell Howard says:

Thank you for the video.
As a 63 year old I would add the importance of good form. As a young man I could get by with sloppy form. Now poor form leads quickly to injuries and long recovery.
If you can afford a coach / trainer it is money well spent.

William Santiago says:

Thank u for sermon…I'm 56 yrs old…I will take your advise..basically that what I'm following…

Dan Carrison says:

I'm 75 and have been lifting weights since 16. It's always been a supplemental exercise for the sports I was into, so I never tried to break any personal best lifts. I just lifted weights for an hour, twice a week and, at 75, still keep to that routine. I can only do a few exercises now comfortably because of bad knees and one bad shoulder (rows, decline bench press, e-z bar curls, and shrugs) but I can still hit them fairly hard. The one thing I notice is it's difficult to get a pump in the biceps. But the forearms and the chest still pump up. Thanks for your channel!

You rock dude

greg PETERBURS says:

I’ve been training 57 years , at 75 I’m training 6-7 days a week, i don’t go with super heavy weights just because of joint wear . I hike as many times a week that I can weather permitting. You can do it , but you have to be committed 🤙

Ramdas Marar says:

I'm 64 and have been a life long runner. However, in the last 2 years, I've changed my fitness routine to do resistance training 4 times a week and running hills two times a week. I've also become a vegan and my diet primarily consists of fruit, vegetables, high fibre rye bread with macadamia butter, steel cut oats and plant protein powder with almond milk. The result is I've become much stronger, I've lost 6 kilos (from 68 kg to 62 kg) and my running speed has improved by 10%. I'm lifting heavier weights and my running has become faster even as I age.
