Achilles tendon problems can significantly affect the training of any runner. Exercises known as eccentric exercises are the best for strengthening the Achilles tendon. This exercise should not cause any pain in your knee. If it does, check that you’re keeping your knees straight. If the pain continues, reduce how much you bend your knee.

If you have a very flat foot or wear orthotics, do this exercise in your trainers (use orthotics if you have them).
