For this week’s workout we are working on strengthening our back and core areas which play an important part in providing balance and stability for us on a daily basis.

Our back and core muscles get used everyday and probably more than we realize. Simple activities like sitting up in a chair, walking up and down stairs, getting into a car etc all deal with using these muscles.

Having a strong back helps with lifting heavier objects and standing up straight. Strong core muscles help us get out of bed, move around unexpected objects while walking or jogging and many more scenarios.

This workout focuses on working these muscles in a relaxed seated position which will make it easy for you to try at home using a sturdy chair.

Also optional is the use of a playground ball which you can substitute using a folded towel.

As always only perform movements that feel comfortable for you and never force anything that causes you pain or discomfort. And of course remember to drink lots of water.

Meredith, you just helped me so much today! I listened to your Tuesday podcast โ€œExercises To Help Strengthen And Tone Your Coreโ€. I also listened to your Motivational Podcast from June 17 โ€œDo It!โ€ I have a very weak back and I am in pain just standing for a 1/2 hour chopping vegetables, etc. and cooking my dinner. I also am very overweight (loosing slowly) and have heavy legs. It is really hard for me to lift my legs doing the exercises. I watched this video yesterday after I listened to the podcast, and thought I would not be able to do it. After listening to the podcast again today, and listening to the motivational podcast again, I decided to try it because my desire to strengthen my back won me over. To my surprise I did the whole thing. It was hard for me to do, but I did it and I felt better after I did it. I am going to try to do it 3 times a week as you suggested in your podcast. You helped me so much Meredith, and I am so grateful for you and how much you help all of us.โค๏ธ
